That first post birth poo can seem really scary but it will most likely not be anywhere near as bad as you think.
Here are my 6 top tips for your first post birth poo:
- Make sure that you are really well hydrated. Drink plenty of water.
- Get up and move about as much as possible, whenever you can.
- Eat lots of fibre rich foods.
- Use a stool softener – this is particularly important if you’re taking any form of pain relief, as often medication can increase constipation.
- Apply gentle pressure to your perineum when going to the toilet. Use a maternity pad or a bit of rolled up toilet roll to gently apply pressure.
- Try not to tense up – although this could be a natural reaction, it will definitely make matters worse.
Make sure that you save these top tips so that you have them to hand when the time comes!
