Have you ever thought that your baby might have hiccups in the womb?

What does it feel like? It feels a little like a quick, pulsing motion. Sometimes you can also feel them from the outside of the womb.

What are the hiccups?

They are the tiny little movements of your baby’s diaphragm as they practice breathing!

Often, you’ll feel them in the second trimester onwards. It’s a completely normal reflex and it’s generally a good sign that your baby is developing well. Hiccups ordinarily don’t tend to last too long and can happen multiple times in a day.

It’s important not to count the hiccups as fetal movements. If your baby isn’t moving as much as normal this is something that you want to have checked out. Always speak to your midwife or healthcare provider if you’re concerned about your baby’s movements.

Have you felt your baby hiccup in the womb? How often did you feel them? I remember the first time I felt them, they really are the funniest sensation!
