When considering whether to have an epidural you must remember that you should do exactly what you want to do when you want to do it! Any decision regarding the birth of your baby is yours.
However there are some reasons that an epidural might not be for you:
- They can increase the likelihood of you needing synthetic oxytocin.
- You will more than likely need to have a catheter inserted so that your bladder can be emptied.
- Your ability to move around will be restricted.
- You will need to wear monitoring equipment (which will further restrict your movement) to check on your baby.
- An epidural can affect your body’s ability to labour and birth your baby. This can lead to an increased chance of intervention.
