Round ligament discomfort can be really common in pregnancy but it is not dangerous to you or your baby. Often it will start towards the end of the first trimester as you go into the second trimester.
Round ligament pain often feels like a sharp jabbing, cramping type pain on one or both sides of your abdomen. You also might find that one side feels worse than the other. The pain is often triggered by sudden movements such as rolling over in bed, going from sitting to standing or sneezing, coughing or laughing. It usually only lasts a few seconds and will stop once you stop doing the activity that is causing the discomfort.
Round ligament pain can be really uncomfortable and is caused by the uterus growing and the ligaments that anchor the uterus to the pelvis become more stretched.
